WHY You Should Stick With Your Fitness Routine During the Holidays
Christmas is the most wonderful time of the year, but it’s also the busiest. There are big parties to organize, food to prepare and order, and gifts to give and receive. This season gets so full of activity that people often forgot to do the one thing they shouldn’t forget – work out. Unlike the holidays, your fitness routine isn’t seasonal! There are many reasons why you should stick with your fitness routine especially during the holidays.
Below are some of them:
The holiday season is more stressful.
Compared to the rest of the year, the holiday season is way more stressful. People tend to travel more often, and their diet and exercise get derailed because of the changes to their schedules. By neglecting your fitness, you’re actually abusing your body! What you need to do this Christmas is focus on not getting sidetracked, so you can keep your body strong!
What you need is some calm.
As we’ve said before, the Christmas season is the season of stress. You can do a number of things to lower your stress levels – you can read a book or catch a movie. But do your body a favour and exercise instead! High intensity training sessions will add stress to the body, but it’s the “good” kind of stress. After the release of working out, you’ll find that you’re calmer and cooler than before!
You don’t want to spend these holidays sick.
We all want a sick Christmas party, but we don’t want to actually be sick this Christmas. If you skip on your exercise, you just might land yourself in bed for the rest of the holidays. This is because the lack of exercise, coupled with the empty calories from your alcohol-ladled house parties, is sure to leave your body feeling sluggish. Naturally, if you feel sluggish, you’ll be less inclined to hit the gym the next day. This creates a cycle that will be hard to get out of. So avoid this vicious cycle and hit the gym today!
You want to stay up for Christmas, but not the rest of the year!
It’s normal for people to stay up on Christmas and on the New Year, but not after the holidays! Regular exercise improves the quality of your sleep, according to the National Sleep Foundation. Add a couple of minutes of meditation after your usual fitness routine so you can be sure you sleep like a baby.
So you can finish the year strong!
The Christmas holidays are the last leg of the year. If you skip out on exercise at this crucial time, it’s easy for your efforts during the past months to simply waste away. There’s a chance you might even be de-motivated and completely turned off from exercising the next year, if you don’t see the results of your exercise! That’s why you need to stick with your exercise these coming months, so you can finish the year extra strong!
