We all know it: as we age, our metabolism naturally declines. That is just the way that our bodies work! However, so many women think that this is something that cannot be reversed or changed. The good news is that there are ways to boost your metabolism naturally, no diet pills or any of that crap! Keep reading and I will share some of my tips with you. <3
I frequently hear from women that they are afraid to lift weights because they do not want to get bulky. Well, I have good news! I’ve said it before and I will say it again; lifting weights will keep you LEAN! Building and maintaining lean muscle keeps your metabolism going. The reason is that lean muscle burns more calories than fat does. Start to incorporate strength training at least three times per week.
I’ve been struggling with this for a little while, because so many people say so many different things about this. I do recommend eating often IF that is what keeps your energy high and steady throughout the day. However, if you aren’t HUNGRY, I don’t suggest forcing it. My recommendation is to eat when you’re hungry, and be sure to not let your total for the day fall below 1,200.
I LOVE high-intensity cardio because it doesn’t take much time to really stoke your metabolism. If you have FIVE MINUTES, try some intervals. For example, try running with all-out effort for 20 seconds, alternated with 10 seconds of rest. Do this repeatedly for just FIVE MINUTES and it could double your metabolism for THIRTY MINUTES after you’re finished! The workout I followed for 90 days that helped me lose my weight was completely centered around high-intensity interval training. If you want to give that a try plus work very closely with me for 30 days, check this out! Drop the Pounds in 30 Days Accountability Group
Too much fiber too quickly can give you a tummy ache, so increase your intake slowly! Fiber is the parts of foods we eat that is not easily digestible, but that is actually a good thing. You will burn extra energy processing fiber, keeping your metabolism chugging along. Aim to eat 25 to 30 grams of fiber daily.
Water is such a key component to losing weight and is one of the easiest ways to boost your metabolism. I mean, how easy is it to grab a cup of water?! If you aren’t drinking enough water, your metabolism will become less efficient. I follow the rule of drinking half of my body weight in ounces per day. Fruits, vegetables and most other liquids count toward this as well.
Protein and the amino acids in protein rebuild your lean muscle. And from one of the earlier tips, you know that lean muscle is a huge part of weight loss and metabolism! If you don’t eat enough protein and your lean muscle tissue breaks down, your metabolism will slow. So eat that protein!
As always, my hope is that this will help you in some way and lead you to success in your weight loss efforts! Please reach out to me if I can ever help you in any way!
